Salut!
Identify and choose listening materials (songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks...) that are perfect for your level and goal. Not too hard, not too easy. If you spend a lot of time looking for audio materials and if you are never sure that what you're listening to is appropriate to you, then listen to this special episode - entirely in French, on purpose! - to help you navigate the endless amount of resources out there.
You're going to learn:
- how to check the level of any resource you come across
- how to spot which ones are ideal for you
- bonus: apply this very technique to today’s episode, recorded entirely in French
Today's takeaway:
1. To improve your listening skills, aim to find comprehensible input: content that you can mostly understand.
2. To identify such content, pick any listening materials you enjoy. Listen to the first few minutes. Then check how much you understood. This might mean watching a movie scene without subtitles then with subtitles, listening to an audiobook chapter then reading it, or listening to a podcast/song then reading the transcript/lyrics.
3. If you understood less than 60%, this resource is probably too difficult. Anything above 90% means it might be too easy. Aim for 75-90% and you're good to go!
